From the nostalgic tears to the unscripted chaos on stage, this is how EXO made their long-awaited homecoming feel like no time had passed at all.
Day 1: Believing in Peter Pan and Refusing to Grow Up

Last July 4, every single corner of the SM Mall of Asia Arena was completely packed with EXO-Ls taking photos with their eribongs, distributing freebies, and trading stories about how long they had waited for this weekend. The energy outside was buzzing with pure excitement—especially after fans at soundcheck shared snippets of Sehun and Kai casually walking out on stage wearing traditional Filipino Barongs, completely setting the local tone for the weekend.
But the exact second we crossed those gates and scanned our tickets, a sudden rush of adrenaline hit the entire crowd. An unspoken truth settled over everyone: once you are inside, it is completely pointless to compare ticket tiers or stress over who got the better seat. When the lights finally dimmed and the first notes began to play, nothing mattered anymore other than the fact that everyone was in that room together, cheering for the exact moment they had been waiting years for. If you managed to get inside that venue, regardless of where you were seated, you had already won.

Then, the lights went down, and the heavy, historic rumble of “MAMA” filled the arena. Looking at the stage, totally overwhelmed, a single question echoed through the crowd: how can a song as loud as “MAMA” be so incredibly emotional? It wasn’t just the music; it was the sheer weight of survival — a real reminder of everything both the artists and the fans had gone through just to stand in the same room again. Watching them transition into “Growl” right in front of everyone’s eyes — and not through a pixelated phone screen — sent an immediate wave of goosebumps through the venue. It was the sudden, beautiful realization that the boys who used to perform this track in school uniforms are now grown-up men. They moved with a mature, sharp precision that felt worlds away from the chaotic teenagers who first stole our hearts a decade ago, leaving the crowd to miss the past a little while loving the present.

Years ago, aside from the fact that it was my favorite song, I used to joke around that it would be the exact track the group would use to welcome everyone back after the enlistment period ended — and I was right. Back when I didn’t have the chance to attend EXO PLANET #2 – The EXO’luXion in Manila, I asked my friend to call me during the “Peter Pan” performance just to hear the audio through a glitchy line, catching pieces of a world I couldn’t reach.
Standing there now as grown-ups, listening to thousands of EXO-Ls sing “Peter Pan” for Day 1, tears started hitting the floor. It reminded the crowd that they wanted to stay in Neverland a little longer, safely hidden away from the demands of growing up. There were tears for the youthful hopes that didn’t withstand the real world, yet everyone left with a profound gratitude for the spark that still lives on in that track, stubbornly refusing to fade.

The members turned the spotlight entirely onto the floor, making the audience stand up, dance, and showcase their vocals, transforming a massive arena into an interactive party. Kyungsoo spent half the night completely wide-eyed and amazed by the crowd’s energy, constantly repeating his favorite local phrase, “Ang galing!” with the biggest smile on his face.

Looking at the crowd screaming their lungs out, it felt like a collective badge of honor for all the fans who fangirled or fanboyed so hard that they were once judged by the outside world. Whatever we do, people are always going to have something to say. But no one but you know exactly how it feels to be you, or how much these songs carried you through the dark. In that moment, the crowd let go and did whatever they wanted—because it is only embarrassing if you are embarrassed. In that room, thousands of EXO-Ls shed their adult responsibilities to just be young again, completely free.
Of course, looking up at the stage, the sight of the members naturally pulled a heartstring. It was a gentle reminder that loving what we have right now doesn’t erase what we’ll always miss. The crowd missed the missing pieces and the familiar harmonies, holding space for both love and longing.

Standing there in the dark, looking at the glowing silver sea, it was clear that an entire generation had found their safe place, anchoring their youth to a promise that never broke.
EXhOrizon in Manila was the ultimate canvas of growth, showing a clear map of time where young students had transformed into working professionals. Yet, the moment we stepped inside the venue, the corporate titles dissolved, and we became those exact same fans who grew up with EXO. Seeing the very group that got me into K-pop in the first place will always pull a heartstring like nothing else can. Looking around the arena, it was clear that it wasn’t the adult attendees who bought the tickets that night, but the young fans living inside them—going back to their youth, refusing to grow up, even just for those few hours. It was a living embodiment of the promise tucked inside Peter Pan: “It is not the end because we are going to meet again.”

As the final notes faded and the concert came to an end, it was such a surreal feeling to look down and finally pick up the confetti from the floor myself.
